The history of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in this country dates back to the 1800s and has stood the test of time during the centuries since. From Louisiana and Florida to an expansion north, the congregation spread and secured its footprint on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. The Christian principles that the church was founded on continue to be taught today at education institutions such as the Greek American Institute, in New York City. Michael Prokop, alongside his wife, were both recently honored by the Greek American Institute. The Jan. 30, 2017 honors were delivered due to Michael Prokop’s wife’s 40 years of services to the school. The Greek American Institute is a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade facility that was founded in 1912 and is currently the oldest continuously run Greek Orthodox school in the U.S. Michael Prokop is also an active member of the Archangel Michael Church stewardship program, located in Port Washington, New York.
